2009 Massage Therapy Hall of Fame Inductee

Margie has been a licensed massage therapist since 1989. She's been teaching massage for over 13 years and received the National Achievement Award in 1999 for Teacher of the Year from the Career College Association. She is a Traditional Thai Massage instructor who received her teacher certification from ITM in Chiang Mai, Thailand. In 2001 Margie developed Swe-Thai Massage which became the subject of her first top rated instructional video. Margie's second video Table Top Thai A Comprehensive Massage Routine was released in 2004 and her latest video Comprehensive Thai Bodywork & Herbal Ball Application was released in February 2007.

Margie travels throughout the world conducting Traditional Thai, Table Top Thai, Swe-Thai and Herbal Ball massage workshops and has provided specialized Spa Training to many four and five star/diamond resorts. Having herself made 14 trips and logged over 1,000 hours of instruction in Thailand, Margie still enjoys taking groups of Massage Therapists from the U.S. to Chiang Mai, Thailand for one month each year to receive certification in Traditional Thai Massage. In addition to massage Margie is a certified Hatha Yoga instructor and is Reiki I & II certified. Swe-Thai Massage and Thai Herbal Ball Treatment

8 CE Credit Hours

What you will need: Massage Table, Top Sheet, fitted sheet and lubricant of choice.

Swe-Thai Massage: is a unique style of massage that combines the ancient eastern knowledge of a highly revered form of medical massage with the western knowledge of specific and advanced soft tissue therapy.

Swe-Thai Massage blends many Thai massage techniques such as forearm rolls, elbow press and open and yoga- style stretches, with proven and highly effective western treatment philosophies.

Swe-Thai Massage addresses general neck and back disorders using biomechanics which are based on Traditional Thai Massage techniques.

By the completion of this 8 hour introductory course participants will be able to:

  1. Explain why Swe-Thai was developed and how it benefits both the practitioner and the client.
  2. Explain the primary theory of Swe-Thai Massage and define the biomechanics
  3. Perform several different Stretches incorporating Thai biomechanical techniques used for Swe-Thai massage.
Thai Herbal Ball Treatment: In Thailand, the round cotton bundles containing herbal mixtures were once the secret tools of ancient healers and up until recently could be obtained only from traditional healers.

During this demonstration participants learn:

  1. The history of Thai herbal balls.
  2. The benefits of Herbal Balls.
  3. The herbs contained in an herbal ball and their importance.
  4. How to properly heat, handle and use a hot Thai herbal ball compress on a client.

Traditional Thai Massage

8 CE Credit Hours

What you will need: A thick bed comforter or mat and two standard size pillows. Wear loose fitting comfortable clothing i.e. sweat, yoga pants or draw string pants and a T-shirt. Shorts are not recommended.

Traditional Thai Massage: is performed on a mat on the floor, this ancient healing art calms and balances the mind, body and spirit using rhythmical compressions, flowing yoga style stretches and treating acupressure points. It increases flexibility and range of motion, relieves pain and muscle tension, relieves stress and helps eliminate toxins providing a general feeling of well being and balance.

By the completion of this 8 hour introductory class the participants will be able to:

  1. Discuss and explain the philosophy and history of Thai Massage.
  2. Discuss the ten Sen lines.
  3. Define and describe various Thai Massage techniques.
  4. Perform several Thai Massage techniques such as passive Yoga style stretching and acupressure massage.
