Cliff Korn
Windham Health Center
Cliff has been a massage therapist since 1993 when he tired of a 22 year career in telecommunications sales. Joining a clinical practice where he enjoyed referrals from both a Family Physician and a Chiropractor, his practice grew quickly and he became a partner in the integrative health center which he now owns. As his practice flourished, he realized the additional benefits that come from reinvesting time and efforts back into the profession. His initial volunteer activity was with the New Hampshire Chapter of the American Massage Therapy Association. He is a Past-President of that chapter and still volunteers today serving on their board and as Webmaster.
Cliff also served as a Steering Committee member of a coalition formed to remove anti-prostitution language from New Hampshire's massage therapy statutes. The coalition was successful in revising the NH statutes & rules to more acceptable health care regulation, including the removal of massage establishment licensure. Cliff's involvement in the coalition led to his appointment to the New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services' Advisory Board of Massage Therapists. He served two complete terms as a member of that board, and was a representative to the National Alliance of State Massage Therapy Boards, a now defunct board that was a precursor to today's Federation of State Massage Therapy Boards.
In 1995 Cliff was recruited to Chair the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork's Continuing Education Provider Review Panel. NCBTMB's first approved providers received that status through his review panel. Cliff joined NCBTMB's board of directors in 1997 and was elected Chairman of the Board of Directors from 1998 through 2000.
As he was completing his term as NCBTMB Chair, Cliff was contacted by a publisher of trade publications who asked him to assist in the venture from which most of us know Cliff. Cliff was Editor of Massage Today for seven years. In that role Cliff's engaging monthly columns challenged us to rethink the status quo and elevate our talents and expectations. He stuck his finger in the eye of our organizations and associations when their actions lost focus on the needs of mainstream practitioners. He asked us to accept only professional treatment from those who enjoy profit from the fruits of our labors and, most frequently, reminded us of the importance in reinvesting in ourselves and giving back to our profession. Each month hundreds of thousands of massage therapists were exposed to his ideas and had an opportunity to debate his thoughts and to develop their own. While Editor, Cliff was either a featured or keynote speaker at events such as the Florida State Massage Therapy Association's annual convention, the Worlds of Wellness conference, and the New York State Society of Medical Massage Therapists' annual convention, and he was able to serve as a participant in the National Policy Dialog to Advance Integrated Health Care symposium held at Georgetown University.
Cliff's still gives back to the profession, and is an avid supporter of the Massage Therapy Foundation. He is a volunteer on the Foundation's Development Committee, is a former member of the Foundation's Advisory Council and most recently was elected to serve on the Massage Therapy Foundation's Board of Trustees. He encourages us all to give back to our profession through financial support of the Foundation.
