Jack Thomas
2011 Massage Therapy Hall of Fame Inductee

Jack Thomas was for eight years publisher of the newsletter Touch Therapy Times, the only independent North American publication to exclusively cover legislative and public policy issues for the massage and bodywork trade. The newsletter had readers in the U.S. as well as in Canada and overseas. After ownership of the publication changed hands, Jack continued his work as a staff writer for Massage Magazine. His coverage of legislative and credentialing issues was unique in the field.

Beginning in 1990 as the Maryland Bodywork Reporter, the newsletter quickly expanded its coverage from that of a small and local paper that focused on events "of interest to bodyworkers in and around Maryland," to regional and then national developments. As Touch Therapy Times, the publication was devoted to accurate reporting of policy issues such as regulation, certification, accreditation, education, research, practitioners'relationships with government and with each other. It was for a time accepted as a periodical by the Library of Congress.

Robert and Judi Calvert bought Touch Therapy Times from Jack in 1997. Jack agreed to provide his services as reporter and writer for the Touch Therapy Times newsletter for a period of three years from the date of the sale.

Jack gave many years of his life in providing and contributing to the massage and bodywork field. Now, no longer active as a practitioner, he continues as a regular consumer of massage therapy services.
