"David may not have been the first to discover Chair Massage, but, like Columbus, there is no doubt that he was the first to put it on the map." That was the perspective of Scott Lamp, President of the American Massage Therapy Association, in November 1997, when he chose to honor David Palmer with the prestigious President's Award for his contribution to the massage profession. Massage Magazine calls David the "father" of contemporary Chair Massage for the significant role that he has played in the growth of this segment of the bodywork services industry. While a massage school owner in 1982, David was frustrated with the lack of job opportunities for his graduates and realized that "repackaging" massage from a table to chair would make it far more accessible to most people. His early work providing seated massage to corporations and convention halls convinced him that this was a way to make professional touch safe, convenient and affordable. In 1983 David began developing the first special chair to make seated massage comfortable and convenient for both the customer and the practitioner. In 1986 his chair was introduced to the marketplace and has served as the model for all subsequent massage chairs. David's current business, TouchPro, has trained more than 12,000 chair massage specialists through the world and his practitioner resources have reached every corner of the globe. Most recently he developed a successful model for providing chair massage services in a retail setting. Website: TouchPro Institute Cutting Edge Chair Massage 8 CE Contact Hours Chair massage is the bridge for many people into the world of professional touch. However, it is also one of the best bridges for massage practitioners into a successful career. In this seminar participants will learn the TouchPro approach to marketing and delivering chair massage services. This approach is grounded in "openness" -- an open heart, mind, and body and open business practices. Massage and business relationships are best based on trust and a structure that is safe and transparent from the first encounter to the last with each customer. While chair massage is typically positioned as a way to get table clients or provide community service, this seminar takes the position that chair massage is a specialty. Class time will alternate between between hands-on work and marketing discussions making for a lively and engaging day. Handouts will be provided for both portions. At least half the participants should have a massage chair, so bring a friend...
