8 Credit Hours
This 8-hour presentation will cover the anatomy and function of muscles and joints of the temporomandibular region and their influence on TM joint dysfunction and craniofascial pain. Multimedia presentations will include structural anatomy of the TM joint, acute and chronic conditions, TMJ dysfunction, and degenerative pathologies of the joint. Treatment methods will be given in a step-by-step protocol and self-treatment will be used as the hands-on palpation experience. Some steps will be discussed and viewed without palpation due to sensitivity of gag reflexes in seated position.
Use of the intraoral protocols in your practice depends on the scope of practice as defined by state law. This class offers unique insights to the TM joint and its role in facial, cervical and low back pain. The self-palpation skills will allow you to teach the person to self-treat, which can be used as self-care for all clients and is especially valuable in those states where you, the practitioner, cannot apply intraoral techniques.

Developing Clinical Strategies for Chronic Pain Cases
8 Credit Hours
This 8-hour course is designed to build clinical reasoning skills and develop treatment strategies. We will explore functional and dysfunctional breathing patterns, the relationship of chronic hyperventilation to chronic pain, and consequences that dysfunctional respiration has on biochemistry, posture and mental health. Learn a number of manual assessment skills and the value of the Nijmegen Questionaire. We will list the suspect muscles and discuss NMT strategies for treating them. The class is more geared toward clinical reasoning skills, assessments and strategy development.
