Save The Museum!

The World of Massage Museum (WOMM) was created by Robert and Judi Calvert who were the founders of Massage Magazine. They traveled and collected objects related to massage for over 20 years. The museum was organized as a non-profit educational institution to illustrate, preserve, promote and sponsor exhibits, programs and research that will bring about a better understanding and appreciation by the community of the history, art, science and cultural environment of massage.

Their mission was to explain, by example, the place massage has had and currently holds in world cultures. They wanted to further the growth and enhance the image, art and science of massage through various means such as educational programs, exhibits and research.

WOMM opened in Spokane, WA. April 2-3, 2004. It was the first and only museum of its kind in the world featuring over 4,000 objects. Sadly, it was only open for four months. Perhaps Spokane was not ready for a museum about massage. The Calvert's felt therapists were just too busy in their life and jobs to come and support it. Robert and Judi felt that more education needed to be done to help therapists learn they need to study and know the history of massage better. The museum collection is in storage at this time and being cataloged by Judi.

Robert passed away April 19, 2006. So Judi is carrying on their dream of the collection being presented in another way to the world. The proceeds will go towards the creation of a DVD on the history of massage or a virtual realty of massage history, on the web.
